Albert N. LeBlanc, age 86, of Salem,
died peacefully during his sleep Tuesday, January 3, 2012, in a local
nursing home after a period of declining health. He was the husband
of the late Theresa “Terry” (Morin) LeBlanc, with whom he shared
56 years of marriage and the son of the late John and Beatrice
(Melanson) LeBlanc. Born in New Bedford, Albert was raised and
educated in Salem where he has lived since 1936; following his wife’s
death he relocated to Florida for five years, returning to Salem in
2007. He attended St. Joseph’s Grammar and High Schools, graduating
in 1944. He was retired as the Safety Director and Fire
Superintendent for the former A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in
Peabody, after twenty-seven years of service. Al was especially proud
of his military service, during World War II, he served as Corporal
with the Company E of the 399th Infantry Regiment in the
European-African, Middle Eastern Theatre, and also in the Army of
Occupation in Germany with the 506th Military Police Battalion.
Mr. LeBlanc served on the Board of the
Assumption Insurance Company, as a former President of the Board of
St. Joseph’s Credit Union in Salem, as an incorporator of St.
Joseph’s Parish Scholarship Fund, as former President of St.
Joseph’s School Alumnae Association, and as a member of the
National Safety Council, American Legion William Shoemaker Post #345,
Lynn and Salem American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Al was a dedicated husband, father,
grandfather and a man of great personal faith. His faith was lived in
action through his lifelong dedication to St. Joseph’s parish where
he served in innumerable volunteer capacities. In his retirement
years he enjoyed the company of many friends at Apple Valley
Campground in Maine and at the Senior Center in Salem.
He is survived by his three daughters,
Carolyn B. Evans and her husband Everett of Auburndale, FL, Dorothy
M. Arthur and her husband John of Salem and Elaine P. Theriault and
her husband Ronald of Auburndale, FL; his son Francis R. LeBlanc and
his wife Katie of Exeter, NH, his sister Theresa “Terry” Morin of
Salem; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several
nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Doris M. Dionne,
Hermeline Arsenault. Oliver, Desire, Thaddee, Victor and Emile
LeBlanc.
His funeral will be held on Saturday from the Berube and Sons
Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St., Salem at 9AM, followed by a funeral Mass at Ste. Anne’s Church, Salem at 10AM. Burial will be in
Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Relatives and friends are
respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4-7PM.
