Elsie (Jasso) Barbal, 96, of Marblehead, died March 19, 2011 at the Stanley R. Tippett Hospice Home in Needham, MA from complications resulting from a fall at her home. She was the wife for 62 years of Peter Barbal who predeceased her in 2008.


Elsie was born in Kansas City, Kansas where she graduated from Washington Ruel High School and Burdett Business School. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Currie) Jasso of Kansas City, Kansas. Elsie had been a resident of Marblehead for the last 59 years where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.


During her lifetime Elsie had many jobs. She worked at John Deere advertising in Kansas City, Kansas, Fair Baking Company in San Antonio, Texas, General Electric Company in Boston, Hogue & Sprague in Lynn, Paris Worcester in Lawrence, and Lenny Goodman in Haverhill all in cost analysis and accounting.


She is survived by her daughter, Deborah J. Guyer and husband Dr. Eric C. Guyer of Dover, MA, her granddaughter Brittany L. Guyer, a doctoral candidate at MIT, and her sister Virginia L. Benson of San Antonio, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Elsie was the sister of the late John J. Jasso Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas and the late Joseph J. Jasso of San Bernardino, CA.


Funeral services will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10 a.m.  Burial will be at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead.
