Irene A. (Gagnon) Ouellette, 89, of Salem, died Feb. 10,
2009 in
Grosvenor Park Nursing Home, Salem.
She was the wife of the late Lucien Ouellette.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late Frank and
Rosie (Armstrong) Gagnon, Irene worked as a weaver for the former Pequot Cotton
Mills in Salem and later in life worked for Fanny Farmer also in Salem.
Mrs. Ouellette was a member of the Carmelite Third Order and volunteered
at the Carmelite Retreat House and was a member of the former Ladies Sodality
of St. Joseph’s parish, Salem.
She also enjoyed knitting and ceramics.
She is survived by two sons; Frank Ouellette and his
wife Diane, of Middleton, MA, and Daniel Ouellette and his wife Sandra of
Hudson, NH, three daughters; Linda Gagnon and her husband Edward of Salem,
Julie Willwerth and her husband Mark of N. Attleboro, MA, and Ann Marie Ouellette of
Salem, NH, ten grandchildren: Michelle Berube, James Gagnon, Timothy and Kevin
Willwerth, Angela, Nicole, Jennifer, and Matthew Ouellette, Adam Gaudreault,
and Kristina Charros, five great-grandchildren; Harrison and Jackson Berube,
Letitia Rose Gagnon, Daniel Ouellette and Alexis Hutchinson and many nieces and
nephews.
At the time of his death, Irene and her husband
Lucien were married for 59 years. She is
also the last surviving of seven children in the Gagnon family.
Her funeral will be held from the Berube and Sons
Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. (1A/114), Salem, Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd. Salem at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s
Cemetery. Relatives and friends are
invited. Visiting hours at the funeral
home are Thursday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may
