Joseph William Roderick Jr., 71, of Salem, passed away Thursday,
Feb. 4, 2010, in the company of family at the Kaplan Family Hospice
House, Danvers, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born
in Salem, the son of the late Frances (Pisa) Roderick and the late
Joseph W. Sr., Joe attended Salem Schools before joining the Air Force.
Honorably discharged in 1958 after serving his country for four years,
Joe worked for a time in Kansas for Boeing before moving back to Salem.
Mr. Roderick was a steeple worker before changing careers to become a
cook. He worked for many years at the former Keefe's Restaurant and the
Witch's Kettle in Salem.
Joe was a longtime member of the AOH
and the Moose Lodge in Salem and was also a former member of the PCYC
in Salem. He enjoyed spending time boating and loved to fish.
He
is survived by two sons, Steven and Jeffrey Roderick of Salem; a
daughter, Laural Cunha and her husband Victor of Peabody; a former
wife, Barbara (Unruh) Roderick; two brothers, Richard Roderick and his
wife Mary, and Robert Roderick and his wife Maureen, all of Salem; and
a sister, Kathleen Billings of Beverly. Joe also leaves six
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, as well as his best
friend, John Keefe. Joe was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie
Allman.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral arrangements are private and
are under the direction of the Berube and Sons Funeral Home, Salem. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kaplan
Family Hospice House c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St.,
Danvers, MA 01923. Joe's family wishes to thank the staff at the Kaplan
House for their compassion, support, and care shown to Joe and his
family during his last days.
