Julius
I. Abcunas, 90, of Salem, died September 30, 2010 in Kaplan Hospice
House, Danvers. He was the husband of Mary (Gerrish) Abcunas
of Salem.
Born in Windsor,
CT, the son of the late Ignas and Rose
(Plozis) Abcunas, Julius lived in Lynn
before moving to Salem for over
fifty years. Julius was a World War Two
Army Veteran. He was involved in several
campaigns during the war including Normandy,
Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. During his time in the Army, Julius was
awarded a Purple Heart. Following the
War, Mr. Abcunas worked for many years as a truck driver for H&S
Distributors in Salem and for
Sunburst in Salem. Julius was also was a member of DAV Post 64,
Lynn.
Along with his wife, Mary, whom
he had been married to for 49 years, Julius is survived by two sons, Ralph
Abcunas and his wife Cheryl of Peabody, and Donald Abcunas of Salem, a sister,
Veronica “Dolly” Ierardi of Lynn, Alex Abcunas of Lowell, John Abcunas of Lynn,
and Joseph Abcunas of Salem, and a granddaughter, Jillian of Salem. He was the brother of the late Stanly Abcunas
who was killed in action during WWII, Peter Abcunas, Rose Quinn, Theresa Hoy,
and James Abcunas.
Relatives and friends are
invited to a funeral service in the Berube and Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. (Rt.1A/114) Salem, Tuesday at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8 p.m.
