Lionel Jules 'Mitch' Michaud, 88,
formerly of Salem, died May 19, 2009 in St. Ann's Nursing Home in Oklahoma City, OK with his son Tom Michaud and
daughter-in-law Cinde at his side.
Lionel was born in Salem in 1920, the son of Alfred and Jean
(Masse) Michaud. Raised in Salem, he attended St. Joseph’s school and graduated from Salem
High in 1936. He spent WWII serving his
country in the Pacific as a sailor in the US Navy. Lionel married Gloria
(Belleau) Michaud in 1941 and they were husband and wife for 28 years until her
death in 1969. For most of his career Lionel was the machine shop foreman
for Glouchester Engineering where he headed the development of Numerical
Control Technology for the company. He enjoyed sailing, music, reading,
and traveling in Europe during his retirement.
Lionel is survived by his two sons; Thomas Michaud
and his wife Cinde of Edmond, OK, Gary Michaud and his wife Nancy of Napa, CA,
and a son-in-law Don Emilian and his wife Charlene of Wenham, MA. Lionel
was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Christian Emilian of Wenham,
Derek Emilian of Glouchester, Shannon (Michaud) Winsor of Edmond OK, Benjamin
Lionel Michaud of Edmond OK, Alexander Michaud of Norman, OK, Jason Michaud of
SF, CA, and Lisa (Michaud) Henry of Napa, CA.
He is also survived by two sisters, Loretta Petite of Beverly and Rita Parker of Danvers along with several nephews, nieces
and 7 great-grandchildren. Lionel was
predeceased by a loving daughter, Paulette Emilian who died in 1997.
Lionel remarried in 1980 to Madeleine (Boucher)
Pelletier who lives in Salem. Together,
they made their home in Salem and enjoyed many happy years of
companionship, love of family, and travel to Hawaii, Italy, Paris and Alaska.
In addition to his wife Madeline he leaves her five children and their
families with whom he became part of their lives as well; Phil Pelletier and
his wife Aime and their two children, Laurel Guy and her four children, Marc
Pelletier and his wife Mary and their two children, Rollie Pelletier and his
wife Barbara and their two children, and Patrick Pelletier.
His funeral will be held from the Berube and Sons
Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St., Salem (Rt. 1A/114) Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave. Salem at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery,Salem. Relatives and
friends invited. Visiting hours are
Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. In Lieu of flowers memorial
