Lucien J. Gagne, 89, of Hollister, CA, died July 4, 2008 in Hollister. He was the husband of Louise (Daudelin)
Gagne.
Lucien was born in Salem and is the last surviving of
sixteen children of the late Ulric and Regina (Pelletier) Gagne. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Salem and also received an Associates
Degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr.
Gagne had been employed by E.H. Porter Construction and also had worked to
build the Essex County Treatment Plant.
Mr. Gagne was a World War Two Marine Corps Veteran
participating in the Battle of Okinawa and was honorably discharged as a
Corporal in 1946. He was a former
treasurer of Local 26 Brotherhood of Carpenters, a member of the Knights of
Columbus of Salem, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Lucien had attended St. Joseph’s Church and Ste. Anne’s Church in Salem, he was an usher at his parish
while living in Florida, and most recently he was a
parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Hollister, CA.
Lucien also enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters;
Georgianna Maguire and her husband William of Deep River, CT, and Dianne
Godbout and her husband James of Hollister, CA, seven grandchildren: James and
Joseph Godbout, William Maguire, Margaret Foley, Regina Kinney, Annette Clark,
and Michael Godbout, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass
in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, North St. Salem, Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s
Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of
flowers contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 53 Lynn Shore Dr. Lynn, MA.
