Madelene L. Frechette, 83, of Peabody, died Monday, January 2, 2011 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.


Born in Salem, March 30, 1928, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Marie Ange (Paquet) Frechette, Madelene was a graduate of St. Anne's School, Salem. She worked for many years in the shoe industry with Ideal Baby Shoe and Dory Shoe in Lynn and ended her career working as a machinist in Middleton.


Madelene was very active with Ste. Anne's Parish when she lived in Salem and was a member of Ste. Anne's League of Catholic Women. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing pool. Most of all, Madelene enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews. She was devoted to her family and spent much of her life caring for her family and friends.


Madelene was the youngest and last surviving of seventeen children: Cecile Frechette, Amide Frechette, Roland Frechette, Alfred Frechette, Philippe Frechette, Raymond Frechette, Rita Pelletier, Catherine Pelletier, Lucienne Hines, Gerard Frechette, Geraldine LeBlanc, Theresa Corbin, Rose Levasseur, Antonio Frechette, Pauline Frechette, and Celine Bouchard. She is survived by fifty-two nieces and nephews as well as many great-nieces and nephews.


Her funeral will be held from the Berube & Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St. (Rt.1A/114) Salem, Thursday at 8 am followed by a Funeral Mass in Ste. Anne's Church, Jefferson Ave. Salem at 9 am. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends invited. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House c/o Hospice of the North Shore 75 Sylvan St. Danvers, MA 01923 or to a charity of one's choice.
