SALEM — Margaret L. (Swasey) Pelletier, 80, of Salem, died at home,
Friday, June 19, 2009. She was the wife of the late Thomas Pelletier
with whom she shared a long and warm marriage.
Born in Salem,
the daughter of the late Cora (Lapham) and Benjamin Swasey, Margaret
was raised and educated in Salem. Following her graduation from Salem
High School she began a career at GE Riverworks and retired with
Thermal Circuits of Salem. Dancing was her passionate hobby. Margaret
would reminisce later in life about sharing dancing steps and
practicing dance in the ladies lounge at work. In her youth Margaret
was decidedly fashionable and was striking with her dark hair and
signature red lips.
In 1949 Margaret and Tom met at a local
dance club and later married. The couple shared a New Years Eve
wedding. Margaret was dedicated to raising her two sons and her
standing Saturday night dancing date with her husband.
Mrs.
Pelletier was passionate about enjoying life and this kept her
tremendously busy. Margaret volunteered and patronized many events at
the Salem Senior Center. She was a dedicated Red Sox fan and an avid
Beano player. Margaret relished her time with her two
great-granddaughters and was always playful and affectionate to them,
and she enjoyed good conversation and dining dates with her special
niece Carol Thibault of Beverly. Mrs. Pelletier was also very happy
spending time with her loving companion Joseph Chouinard.
Margaret
is survived by her son, Louis Pelletier and his wife Debra of Salem;
four grandchildren, Christine Pelletier and Michelle Jacobson of Salem,
Thomas Joseph Pelletier and Danielle Pelletier of Manchester, N.H.;
four great-grandchildren, Jasmin Garcia, Madeline Hardy, Thomas Joseph
Pelletier, and Charlotte Jacobson; a brother, Frank Swasey of Salem;
