Olga (Sokol) Sokolowski, 87, of 40R Highland Ave. Salem, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody. She was the wife of the late Michael F.
Sokolowski.
Born in Lowell, Sept. 24, 1922, Olga was the daughter of the late Mike and Amelia
(Vitowicz) Sokol. She was raised and
educated in Chelsea before living in Chesapeake, Virginia for twenty-three years. Olga had been a resident of Salem since 1996.
Surviving her are her
son, Michael Janiak and his wife Grace of Salem, a daughter, Diane Gulley and
her husband Phil of California, four grandchildren, Debra Zelano of Beverly,
Susan O’Hearn of Tewksbury, Linda McLaughlin of Salem, and Kristen Janiak of
Peabody, and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sokolowski was a Gold Star Mother, her son, the late Frank
Sokolowski was killed in Vietnam. The Sokolowski School in Chelsea is named in Frank's memory. Olga was also the sister of the late Anna
Hallsworth and Julia Sokolowski.
Funeral services were private. Donations may be made in Olga's name to a
charity of one's choice. Arrangements
are under the direction of the Berube and Sons Funeral Home, Salem.
