Peter was born in Swampscott, the son of the late George and Maribelle
(Roberts) Coan. Peter graduated from
Swampscott High School Class of 1941 and enlisted in the army in 1943. While serving his country, Mr. Coan
participated in numerous campaigns including Napple Foggia, Rome Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley and was involved in the Liberation of
the Philippines.
Mr. Coan resided in Swampscott, Beverly Farms, Chebacco Lake in Essex, and Newton, NH where he was a member and former Treasurer of the
American Legion Post. Peter was a well
known member of the equestrian community.
Years ago, Peter owned and operated Horse Hill Farm, a horse riding and
boarding stable, in Beverly Farms, MA.
He also owned and operated the Salem Country Club Stables in Peabody, MA. Later, Peter
owned and operated the White Star Night Club in Rowley, MA. Peter then
worked for the Pickering Oil Company in Salem
as a driver and a member of Teamsters Local #42 and was a warehouse foreman in
the winters for the company. From 1983
until his retirement, he worked as a Transport Driver for Brewer Petroleum in Revere,
MA and was a member of the Teamsters Local
#25.
Surviving him are one
daughter, Anne Coan of Beverly Farms and two brothers, Henry and Vincent
Coan. Peter was the father of the late
Jessie Coan.
Relatives
and friends are invited to meet at the main entrance of the Swampscott Cemetery, Essex St.
Swampscott on Friday at 10 a.m. for a graveside
service led by Rev. Wendall Meyer of St. John’s Episcopal Church,
Beverly Farms.
