SALEM — William P. "Bill" Hart, 79, of Salem, died Saturday evening,
May 2, 2009 in Beverly. He was the husband of Virginia (Popp) Hart.
Bill
was born in Lynn, the son of the late John and Florence (Burchill)
Hart. He graduated from Lynn schools and joined the U.S. Air Force in
1950 serving until 1960. Mr. Hart moved from Lynn to Salem 34 years ago.
Bill
was a retired carpenter and member of Local 216 of the Carpenters'
Union and also retired from his work as head carpenter for Salem State
College in 1982.
Bill was active with the D.A.V. Chapter 84 of
Salem having served many positions including Commander. He was also a
past Commander of District 4 of the D.A.V. and Past Personal Aid to the
State Commander and the former Commander and active member of the Salem
Veterans' Council.
Surviving, in addition to his wife are a son,
William Hart Jr. and his wife Cynthia of Lynn; a step son, Frederick
Phillips and his wife Dorothy A. of Ipswich; a sister, Mary Griffin of
New Hampshire; a brother, Daniel J. Hart of Washington State; three
grandchildren, William, Kevin and Rebecca; and several nieces and
nephews. He was the brother of the late John Hart, Anne Woznick, and
Frances Roland.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from
the Berube and Sons Funeral Home, 191 Lafayette St., Route 1A/114,
Salem, Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Ste. Anne
Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are
invited. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4 to 8
p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude
Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
